In response to reftel request to extend an invitation to the Government of Turkmenistan to nominate 10 law enforcement officials to a study tour of the United States this October, the embassy forwarded an official notification to the government on August 15. Embassy requested a list of nominees by August 30. Embassy will notify the Department of Justice/Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training regarding any response. ¶2. Embassy has also researched airfare costs for the proposed Ashgabat-Miami-Washington-Ashgabat itinerary as requested reftel. Current estimated costs for airfare per person, including taxes, are $2,789. However, if ticketed sufficiently in advance, we anticipate that per person prices will be lower. The international portion of the ticket is priced at $2,075. The Miami-to-Washington/Reagan flight is priced at $714 per person. Please provide fund cite data for the tickets, and advise if the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training wishes to make its own arrangements for the Miami-to-Washington portion of the proposed itinerary. ¶3. Regarding reftel request concerning lodging and per diem rates, embassy notes that standard USG rates are $108 and $59 for Miami and $192 and $64 for Washington, respectively. Please advise of the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training plans to cover the lodging and per diem expenses of Turkmenistan's participants in the study tour. ¶4. Embassy looks forward to working with the Department of Justice/Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training in making this study tour a successful event for Turkmenistan's participants.
