Informal translation of the text of the diplomatic note follows: BEGIN TEXT OF DIPLOMATIC NOTE: -------------- MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL DEPARTMENT OF MULTILATERAL COOPERATION Office of the United Nations and International Institutions No. 561-AE/M/NV/DCM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MADAGASCAR presents its compliments to the EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA in Antananarivo and, referring to the statement by the People's Democratic Republic of Korea on October 8, 2006, that it has tested a nuclear weapon, has the honor to inform the Embassy of the following: The Government of Madagascar wishes to remind that Madagascar is a Party to the Nuclear Non-proliferation treaty, and as such, the country wishes to reconfirms its commitment towards the Treaty. Madagascar is a peaceful and pacifist country, and entirely agrees with the position of the International Community, namely that of the United Nations. Therefore, Madagascar encourages the Security Council in its efforts for the respect for the international standards in the field of preservation of peace in the world.
