s for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d).
1. (C/NF) On June 8, Turkish National Police handed LEGATT a
list of weapons, primarily GLOCK Model 17 and 19 handguns,
which have been recovered in recent months in Turkey. TNP
requested information on the weapons' provenance from the
manufacturers, who apparently reported that many of the
weapons were sold to the USG for distribution to Iraqi
Security Forces. We have forwarded this information by NIPR
email to Embassy Baghdad (per ref a),CENTCOM J2, and DIA.
2. (C/NF) TNP reminded the LEGATT -- as did MFA Director
General for Security Affairs (S/CT-equivalent) Hayati Guven
in a subsequent meeting -- that the GOT expects an official
USG response to their request for an investigation of these
weapons. Guven added that assurances that weapons from the
same lots remain in ISF possession would also be welcomed.
