1. Embassy Ankara received a diplomatic note dated March 13,
2006 from the MFA, requesting U.S. support for Professor Rauf
Versan for the International Law Commission.
2. The text of the diplomatic note is as follows:
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey
presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States
of AMERICA and has the honour to inform them that the
Government of Turkey has decided to present the candidature
of Prof. Rauf Versan to the International Law Commission for
the period of 2007-2011, at the elections to be held during
the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly, in
November 2006.
Prof Versan, whose curriculum vitae is attached herewith, is
an accomplished academic, with a thorough knowledge and
extensive studies in the field of international law.
Convinced that Prof. Versan is eminently qualified for the
above mentioned post, the Government of Turkey would highly
appreciate the valuable support of the United States of
America for his candidature to the International Law
Commission.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey
avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of
the United States of AMERICA the assurances of its highest
consideration.
