Econ Counselor and ESTH Officer made reftel talking points to Ministry of Environment Director of Chemicals and Waste Management Dr. Mohammed Khashashneh. Dr. Khashashneh and Ms. Abeer Zairah (phonetic) from the Ministry of Industry and Trade will represent Jordan at the February 4-6 Dubai UN Environment Program (UNEP) meeting on a Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). Econcouns also indicated USG interest in SAICM issues in an aside to Environment Minister Khaled Irani. ¶2. Khashashneh said he understood the USG points, and he requested a printed copy of the talking points, which we declined, per Ref B instructions. He said he is familiar with the USG position on SAICM as a non-binding instrument. He added that Jordan will be seeking financial assistance for implementing its SAICM national program. RUBINSTEIN
