1. (C) Per Ref A, Charge reiterated to Foreign Minister
Abdelelah al-Khatib June 20 the U.S. position on the
inaugural meeting of the HRC, and our fears that OIC
delegations intend to pursue lopsided resolutions regarding
Israel, noting that he was doing so on the Secretary's
instruction. Khatib, who returned to Amman late the previous
evening from Baku, was aware of the prior demarche (Ref C) on
the topic we made to Ambassador Ziad al-Majali (Director of
the Ministry's Human Rights Directorate),and indicated that
Jordan agrees with the U.S. position and on the need to avoid
controversy during the HRC's first session. Khatib noted
that the HRC meeting was not discussed at the OIC ministerial
in Baku, and was unaware of particular OIC states who
intended to delve into Arab-Israeli controversy in Geneva.
He suspected, however, that there were some states (NFI) who
could be as committed to raising these issues as we are to
avoiding them.

2. (C) FM Khatib said he had not yet received a readout from
the Jordanian Delegation in Geneva, but would instruct it to
be helpful in moderating unwelcome positions during the
session.
