¶1. (C) In the absence of King Abdullah, who is traveling
outside Jordan, Ambassador made reftel demarche to Foreign
Minister Abdelelah Al-Khatib the evening of May 31.
¶2. (C) Khatib reiterated his support for the U.S. approach to
the Iran nuclear issue, and was receptive to the
announcement. He said the GOJ would issue a public statement
that would welcome the U.S. initiative and encourage Iran to
respond positively.
