1. (U) Pol-Econ Chief conveyed reftel demarche to Daniyar
Sarekenov of the MFA's Middle East division on July 27.
2. (SBU) Sarekenov said that Kazakhstan was very concerned
with the developing situation in Iran and hoped for a
constructive response from the GOI to the P5+1 proposal.
The GOK places great emphasis on the need for all
signatories to abide by the provisions of the NPT, while at
the same time supporting Iran's right to the peaceful use of
nuclear energy. Kazakhstan strongly favors a diplomatic
solution.
