¶1. (S) In a March 30 meeting with FM Tokayev (other issues
reported septel),Ambassador reiterated Ref A request for the
transfer of SA-14 and SA-16 MANPADS to the U.S. for
countermeasures testing. Tokayev, although apparently not
briefed on the request in advance of the meeting, responded
very positively and undertook to look into the status of a
response.
¶2. (SBU) Comment: Post will continue to follow up with the
MFA on this issue. Kazakhstani interagency approval will be
required, which frequently results in lengthy delays. End
comment.
