Poloff pointed out that the demarche was given on behalf of Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. and advised Khelifi that it was the position of all three governments that the DRIP required continued refinements and edits as outlined in the non-papers left behind. Khelifi mentioned that he had previously reviewed the DRIP and agreed the document was not ready for advancement to the UN General Assembly or declared as the final compromise text by the Chair of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Due to the complexity of the issues and the required technical interpretations of international and domestic law, Khelifi promised to provide GOA comments at a future date after a full review of the Tripartite position.
