PRELIMINARY OBLIGATIONS FOR FY06 SPECIAL SELF-HELP PROJECTS: 2.Project name: Capacity Building of Wonchi Ecotourism Association Location: Wonchi, Southwest Shoa Zone, Oromiya Region Project holder: Wonchi Ecotourism Association Project description: To construct a guest house at a cost of 87,051.98 ETB within twelve months after funding. Cooperatives Society Project description: To construct a silk production hall of 10mX15m, and procure silk production materials (tray, frames, stacked trays, scales) at a cost of 112,445.90 ETB within twelve months after funding. Project name: Construction of Guri Dengego #1 Primary Level School Location: Guri Dengego PA, Arssi Zone, Oromiya Region Project holder: Guri Dengego #1 Primary Level School Project description: To construct: 1) four classrooms of 7mX8m each, 2) a store of 7mX8m, 3) a staff room of 7mX8m, 4) an educational materials production center of 7mX8m, and 5) two latrines of 5mX4m each at a total cost of 146,257.10 ETB within 10 months after funding. Estimated no. of beneficiaries: 2,517 USG contribution: 10,788.51 USD Dollar amount disbursed: None Local contribution: 6,061.39 USD Date obligated: Obligation in process Project status: Not yet started The community is seeking assistance to establish its first school, which will provide critical educational access for the local children, encourage the community to undertake self-help activities in the future, and boost community morale. ¶6. Project name: Mella-Qawusa Primary School Construction Location: Mella-Qawusa Peasant Association, Gamo Gofa Zone, SNNPR Project description: To construct two blocks of four classrooms (6mX7m each),three rooms for administrative duties (6mX4m each),one room for a teaching aid center (6mX6m),and a latrine of four rooms at a cost of 111,381.50 ETB within eight months after funding. Estimated no. of beneficiaries: 2,164 USG contribution: 9,063.19 USD Dollar amount disbursed: None Local contribution: 3,768.78 Date obligated: Obligation in process Project status: Not yet started As there is no primary school in the area and children are forced to walk four hours a day to and from school, this project will bring dramatic improvements to a community that previously had limited opportunities to educate its children. ¶7. Project name: Construction of a Workshop Location: Axum Town, Tigray Region Project holder: Selam Weaving Cooperative Project description: To procure various industrial materials required to construct a workshop with two rooms of 7mx8m and an 8mx8m floor size at a cost of 106,564 ETB within seven months after funding. Estimated no. of beneficiaries: 454 USG contribution: 12,367.98 USD Dollar amount disbursed: None Local contribution: 200 galvanized iron sheets, 1,914 hours of volunteer labor, 241 pieces of eucalyptus timber for upper and lower structure, and a cash contribution of 10,440 ETB (approx. 1,300.00 USD) Date obligated: Obligation in process Project status: Not yet started The cooperative desires to construct its own production hall, thereby eliminating rental expenditures, increasing income by a minimum of one-third, and minimizing inefficiency in coordinating its overall activities. ¶8. Project name: Small-scale Diary Farm for Income Generation Location: Awra-Amba Kebele, South Gonder Zone, Amhara Region Project holder: Amhara Women's Association Project description: To purchase eight (8) cows and construct a shade with a floor area of 84 m2 at a cost of 90,820.02 ETB within twelve months after funding. Estimated no. of beneficiaries: 400 (190 males & 210 females) USG contribution: 10,959.29 USD Dollar amount disbursed: None Local contribution: About 100 labor hours per week to excavate and supply stone and wood for the construction work Date obligated: Obligation in process Project status: Not yet started This unique community is renowned in Ethiopia for its innovativeness, communal values, exemplary work ethic, self- sufficiency, and commitment to women's empowerment.
