¶1. (SBU) Charge made Ref A points with FMA Chief Director
Ellen Serwaa Nee-Whang on June 9. Nee-Whang said the GoG had
consistently supported the use of nuclear energy for peaceful
purposes only and that it would back the role of the IAEA to
verify that Iran's nuclear program was peaceful. Nee-Whang
explained that Ghana's recent approval (Ref B) of the NAM
statement on Iran reflected its desire to maintain consensus
and did not necessarily mean the GOG agreed with the points
contained therein.
¶2. (SBU) EconChief also raised Ref A points on June 9 with
Professor D.A. Bekoe, Ghana's representative to the IAEA.
Although Bekoe did not provide a substantive response, he has
been generally supportive of U.S. positions in the past.
