On November 7, PolChief discussed USG concerns about the
human rights abuses of Iran, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Burma, and
the DPRK, with MFA Director for International Organizations
Yacub Al-Hosani, emphasizing that abuses referred to in
country-specific resolutions under consideration at the UN
Third Committee deserved the attention of the international
community. Al-Hosani concurred that the UN needed to address
abuses and said he would expeditiously relay USG concerns to
New York; he did not offer substantive comment on the
specific countries mentioned. Reftel points were left with
MFA as a non-paper.
