1. (U) ACTION REQUEST: Please see paragraph 3.


2. (U) The Embassy received via diplomatic note a request
from the UAE to support its candidacy in the UN Economic and
Social Council elections. Begin Embassy translation of
diplomatic note.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates
presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States
of America.

With reference to the Ministry's previous note No.
1/5/73-1906 dated July 4, 2005 (reftel),the Ministry has the
honor to inform the Embassy that the United Arab Emirates has
applied to stand for election in the UN Economic and Social
Council's Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
(ECOSOC)- 2006. The election will take place during the
Economic and Social Council session in New York in April-May

2006.

The United Arab Emirates hopes to get the support of the
United States of America in this election.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs avails itself of this
opportunity to renew to the Embassy the assurances of its
highest consideration.

UAE's request for support from the United States in the
upcoming ECOSOC elections.
