1. (SBU) Croatian Assistant Minister for Fisheries
Ivan Katavic, Ministry of Agriculture, told Econoff
on November 9 that the GOC supported Dr. Gerald
Scott for chair of the Standing Committee on
Research and Statistics (SCRS) and that he expects
Croatia to support Dr. Hogarth as well. Katavic
stressed that the GOC was interested in stronger
involvement of the SCRS and decision-making based on
science. He said the GOC supports protecting
spawning as well as juvenile tuna and shares U.S.
concerns about the future sustainability of tuna
fishing.
