SUBJECT: ARMENIA STILL UNDECIDED ON THIRD COMMITTEE
RESOLUTIONS
REF: STATE 204646
Classified By: DCM A.F.Godfrey for reasons 1.4 (b,d).
(C) In response to our inquiry, Armenian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs International Organizations Department Chief Valery
Mkrtumyan told us that the GOAM is still studying the country
resolutions pending at the UN Third Committee and that the
MFA had not yet given final instructions to its mission in
New York. He said that Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian
(currently traveling with President Robert Kocharian in
Greece) was discussing the Iran issue with the President
directly. He added that Oskanian had charged Deputy Foreign
Minister Armen Baibourtian (who is on official travel in
Singapore this week) to talk with his interlocutors about
implications of the resolutions on North Korea and Burma,
although he said he did not expect "any major change" on
those issues.
