SUBJECT: GOL CONSIDERS ADDITIONAL AID TO PAKISTAN VIA NATO

Classified By: Political/Economic Officer Alexander Titolo for reasons
1.4 (b) and (d).
(C) We delivered reftel points on NATO support for relief
efforts in Pakistan to MFA officials Vytautas Leskevicius,
Head of the NATO Division, and Dainius Kamaitis, Head of the
Asia and Pacific Division, on October 21. The MFA officials
reviewed for us Lithuania's assistance to Pakistan to date,
including tents, heaters, and donations of approximately
104,000 USD (300,000 LTL). Leskevicius pointed out that the
GOL does not have strategic lift to offer. We encouraged
them to consider contributing to contracted lift if NATO
deems it necessary. Leskevicius said he would discuss the
issue very soon with the GOL's Mission to NATO in an effort
to prepare for upcoming force generation discussions.
