1. On May 20 Economic Unit Chief delivered reftel text to
Florian Lorenz, Head of the MFA's Multilateral Scientific
Cooperation and Space Affairs Unit. Lorenz welcomed the USG
proposals, noting the EU and USG normally coordinated closely
on space mitigation issues. Lorenz said the USG proposals,
at first glance, appeared compatible with EU views on space
debris mitigation. He added that Austria would follow an EU
consensus position, which Member States should reach by the
end of May.
