1. PolChief discussed Honduran attendance at the upcoming UN
General Assembly (UNGA) with Honduran Foreign Minister Mario
Fortin August 4. The discussion followed Acting PolChief's
demarche on the same subject with MFA Acting Director General
(A/DG) of Foreign Relations Alan Javier Oviedo Garcia July 8.
2. Fortin noted that the Central American Presidents/Foreign
Ministers would be very busy September 11-15 with the
following Central American summits:
- September 11-12 with Korean President/FM in Costa Rica, and
- September 13 with Brazilian President/FM in Guatemala,
as well as Central American Independence Day on September 15.
As such, Honduran President Ricardo Maduro had not yet
decided if he would attend UNGA. FM Fortin plans to attend
UNGA, but his itinerary is dependent on President Maduro's
plans.
3. Fortin promised to inform the Embassy once the GOH's
attendance at UNGA was decided.
