(S) AIT delivered ref a points/non-paper on the possible re-export of Japan-origin frequency inverters to an Iranian company to Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) Export Controls Task Force Head Wally Su on December 15. At the same meeting, AIT delivered the ref b talking points and non-paper on the proceedings of the MTCR meeting in Madrid. ¶2. (S) BOFT immediately contacted the Taiwan company identified in ref a and ordered them to immediately cease all exports of inverters and similar machinery to Iran. The company was reluctant to go into detail over the phone, but indicated it had exported similar machinery to Iran in October and that there may have been discussions regarding additional sales. BOFT will follow-up with a written order to the company to cease such sales, and will investigate to learn the details of the sale in October. PAAL
