SUBJECT: BULGARIA TO RESPOND SHORTLY TO INTERNATIONAL
PARTNERSHIP ON AVIAN INFLUENZA EFFORT

We delivered reftel talking points to Americas Directorate
Head Dr. Valeri Yotov of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs on September 9th. Yotov agreed that the spread of
avian influenza is a serious issue and said the GOB will
support international efforts to control its spread. Dr.
Yotov offered to review the non paper and respond shortly. In
a previous meeting last week, Veselin Delchev, director for
EU Integration and International Cooperation at the Ministry
of Health, said the GOB was closely monitoring any possible
incidences of avian influenza in the country. Agricultural
attache will also deliver the talking points to the
Agriculture Ministry.
