1. On August MFA Deputy Minister Alejandra Liriano asked the
DCM to convey a request that the Secretary agree to receive
President Leonel Fernandez during his visit September 12-13
to Washington and New York. Fernandez will be in Washington
on September 12 for a 5 pm event arranged by the
Inter-American Dialogue and a dinner hosted by the Dominican
ambassador. Fernandez travels to New York on September 13.


2. Liriano said that if such a meeting is not possible,
Foreign Minister Morales Troncoso would like to meet the
Secretary. Morales Troncoso expects to be in New York on

September 13 but the days before and after have not yet been
set.


3. Our perception is that Dominican ambassador in Washington
Flavio Dario Espinal is the principal point of contact for
this request.
