On August 8, Embassy received a diplomatic note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advising that Chile would support Thomas Buergenthal's candidacy for the International Court of Justice. Paragraph two contains an informal translation of the Note. ¶2. Begin text: REPUBLIC OF CHILE Ministry of Foreign Relations No. 12408 The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Multilateral Policy Directorate - presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America and has the honor to refer to the Embassy's Note No. 102 of May 6, 2005, regarding the candidacy of Judge Thomas Buergenthal for membership in the International Court of Justice. The elections will take place during the 60th United Nations General Assembly. Regarding this matter, the Ministry of Foreign Relations - Multilateral Policy Directorate - is pleased to express to the Embassy of the United States of America that the Government of Chile, as a testimony of the excellent relations of cooperation and friendship that exist between the two nations, has resolved with pleasure to support the mentioned candidacy.
