¶1. (C) Copyright legislation was approved by the lower house
plenary on Dec. 15, completing all parliamentary passage of
FTA-related intellectual property legislation. The newly
approved Copyright and Patent/Trademark bills (Ref A) now
pass to the Secretariat General of the Government (SGG),
where they will be prepared for palace certification and
publication in the Official Gazette. This is a purely
mechanical and non-deliberative procedure, which under Art.
26 of the Moroccan constitution must be completed within 30
days (Ref B).
¶2. (C) Embassy understands that language for an exchange of
letters on data protection has been finalized and Post will
conduct the exchange with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
upon instruction from USTR.
