1. Embassy Paris has no objection to NIH's proposed award of
a research project entitled, "Mouse Model for Sepsis"
involving an institution in France: Institut Pasteur,
Paris. Foreign Principal Investigator: Cavaillon,
Jean-Marc. On May 31, EST Counselor visited Dr. Cavaillon at
the Pasteur Institut and received a detailed briefing
regarding the nature of this Sepsis research, as well as the
various protocols in effect.


2. Embassy understands that human subjects will be involved
in this research and that the research protocol for this
grant at the France site is in compliance with NIH guidelines
and has been certified under assurance identification no.
FWA00003327, and that it conforms to U.S. and in-country
guidelines and laws for the protection and welfare of humans.


3. Embassy understands that animal subjects will be used and
that the research protocol for this grant at the France site
is in compliance with NIH guidelines and has been certified
under assurance identification no. A5476-01, and that it
conforms to U.S. and in-country guidelines and laws for the
protection of animals.


4. Embassy clears this project provided NIH is satisfied
this research, if conducted in the U.S., would meet all
applicable U.S. federal and local laws and requirements.
