(SBU) DCM met with MEA (Americas) Joint Secretary Jaishankar to present reftel demarche. DCM underlined the importance of this issue to Washington and indicated DOE's interest in sending a team immediately to re-examine the container. Jaishankar reported that the GOI will need to consult the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board in order to get GOI approval for a visiting DOE team. Jaishankar noted that an immediate response on October 21 would be unlikely given the focus on U/S Burns' visit. Post will follow up on October 22 and continue to stress the urgency of this matter.
