MAPUTO 00762 ¶B. STATE 70725 ¶1. On August 11, 2005, AmEmb Maputo RSO staff met with the six Mozambican participants of the ATA/INL Police Executive Role in Combating Terrorism Course held July 25-29, 2005. All six of the participants were extremely enthusiastic about the course and were eager to attend the follow-on LEED course to be held in October 2005. The participants looked at themselves as pioneers in developing an anti-terrorism task force for Mozambique and have already met with the management structure of the Mozambican Ministry of the Interior to propose the idea. The participants' motivation for action was partly due to the knowledge they gained of the other participant countries efforts to combat terrorism, but mainly from their newly acquired knowledge of international terrorism and the role played by the international community in combating terrorism. The police superintendent for Maputo plans to hold a seminar for officers under his command in the coming weeks. Participants have also expressed their interest in providing such training to new cadets at the police academy. ¶2. The RSO staff would like to express its appreciation to DS/ATA, INL, and ILEA Gaborone for their continued hard work in providing training for Mozambican law enforcement officers. If practicable, the RSO office would request ILEA Gaborone to forward any electronic media supplied to the participants for this course and any future ILEA courses. This material will aid the RSO's office in understanding what course topics were presented and to improve local assistance to the Mozambican police. Regards. La Lime
