1. On 3 March, Econoff delivered reftel talking points to
Beti Likar, MFA Desk Officer for Iraq. According to Likar,
to date Slovenia has disbursed USD 585,000 in bilateral grant
assistance, above and beyond its Madrid pledge of USD
420,000. This aid has been in the form of police training,
psycho-social support for children and preparation for the
training of Iraqi managers. Of the amount disbursed,
slightly more than USD 72,000 was given to UNICEF for the
supply of clean drinking water.
2. In addition to amounts already disbursed, Slovenia will
distribute an additional USD 60,000 "in the near future" for
the UN Protection Unit. The GOS has also decided to donate
to Iraq a large quantity of weapons and equipment for its
security forces (approximately EUR 5.2 million),and
additional EUR 100,000 for the Trust Fund for NATO Training
Mission oustide Iraq, five instructors for the training of
Iraqi military forces "when appropriate conditions in a third
country are established", and an additional USD 130,000 for
the continuation of psycho-social support to Iraqi children
in the framework of "Project Together". Slovenia will also
review possible concrete contributions to the EU Integrated
Rule of Law mission for Iraq.
