SUBJECT: GUATEMALA POISED TO RATIFY INTER-AMERICAN
CONVENTION AGAINST TERRORISM

On August 31, the Guatemala Congress approved the
Inter-American Convention Against Terrorism. The convention
was returned to the executive branch, which is preparing
articles of ratification for signature by the Guatemalan
president. The ratification will take effect once signed and
published in the GOG official gazette. We expect this
process to be completed by mid-October at the latest.
