C O N F I D E N T I A L DUBLIN 000935 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: DECL: 07/27/2015 TAGS: PREL ECON ETRD SUBJECT: IRELAND SUPPORTS U.S. RE: SYRIAN-LEBANESE BORDER BLOCKAGE REF: SECSTATE 135904 Classified By: Pol/Econ Chief Mary Daly for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) (C) On July 27, Stephen Dawson, Acting Director of the DFA's Middle East Division, told POL/ECON chief that Ireland shares U.S. concern about Syria's actions on the border with Lebanon. The Irish do not have an embassy in Damascus nor are the Syrians represented in Dublin. The GOI will thus raise the matter within the EU and will ask its Embassy in Riyahd to raise with the Saudis.
