Litt, Political- Military Affairs Counselor, for Reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) ¶1. (SBU) The Australian Embassy in Baghdad has made the following inquiry, which we understand is related to an Australian parliamentary inquiry: "Between May and October 2004, was there an extant and operative US instruction in Iraq regarding interrogation in existence in addition to the document FM 34-52 Intelligence Interrogation? If so, noting earlier US efforts to facilitate comparison of US interrogation standards with Australian standards, we request either access to that document, or an undertaking by US authorities to perform that comparison for us." ¶2. (S/NOFORN) Post has a copy (Reftel) of the likely subject of the inquiry, a separate interrogation policy titled "CJTF-7 Interrogation and Counter- Resistance Policy", which was published in May 2004. However, the memorandum is classified SECRET/NOFORN. -------------- ACTION REQUEST -------------- ¶3. (SBU) We request guidance from the Department on the appropriate response to this inquiry, and thank the Department for its assistance. Khalilzad
