REF: STATE 122739
On 7/8, PolCouns discussed with the MFA's Director of
International Organizations, Julio Peralta, support for the
U.S. candidacy to the World Heritage Committee. Peralta
noted that Paraguay needed to develop a payment plan to
cancel approximately USD 300,000 in arrears to UNESCO before
it could reclaim its voting privileges. He anticipated
Paraguay would reclaim this privilege in time to vote. He
appreciated the expertise the U.S. brought to this committee.
Paraguay had been approached by other States but had not yet
made any decision regarding its vote. He promised to give
the U.S. Paraguay's fullest consideration.
