HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS

1. (U) On 9/1, Post received the following offers of
assistance for hurricane relief efforts from both Paraguayan
government officials and the private sector:
-- Ambassador Ceferino Valdez, the President of the
Voluntary Firemen's Association in Paraguay and the Foreign
Ministry's Director of Bilateral Affairs, offered to send
20-30 volunteers with experience in land and marine rescue
missions to assist relief efforts. He noted that American
Airlines has offered to fly the volunteers to the U.S. He
may be contacted at 011-595-21-494-900 or via cell phone
011-595-981-515-728;
-- Businessman Esteban Morabito, offered to donate a large
quantity of chemical products for pest control (e.g.
mosquito, rats, etc.) in connection to relief efforts. He may
be contacted in his office at 011-595-21-215-016.
2. (U) Post thanked both Ambassador Valdez and Mr. Morabito
for their generous offers and advised them that as soon as
possible Post will inform them on how to implement their
offers of assistance.
