1. (C) Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Bilateral
Affairs U/S Uzumcu contacted charge on the morning of March
25 and informed him that the GOT is evacuating Turkish
citizen "women and children" from Bishkek. The Turks will
send an aircraft to Bishkek this afternoon; ETA is 2030-2100
Bishkek time. Uzumcu asked for information about local
airports and their status.
2. (C) Embassy Ankara PolMil section contacted Embassy
Bishkek DATT, who informed us the airport and roads leading
to it are open as normal and currently appear unlikely to
close. We passed this information and reftel points to MFA
Central Asia/Caucasus DDG Karslioglu, emphasizing our desire
for all governments to support and work through the OSCE.
Karslioglu said the Turkish government has not confirmed
press reports here that five Turkish citizens were killed in
violence in Bishkek.
