Summary: Embassy Amman would like to request IIP's assistance in recruiting Dr. Samuel Coale of Wheaton College for three program days during the period December 2-6, 2005, to address students and scholars at Jordanian institutions. The speaker's lectures will include: a lecture with Political Science and American Studies students and professors at the American Corner at the University of Jordan, a round-table discussion at the Center for Strategic Studies with members and contacts of the Center, a lecture at the Center for Protection and Freedom of Journalists with Jordanian journalists and writers and a lecture for Political Science students at Yarmouk University in Irbid. ¶2. The topics of the lectures would be based mainly on the current state of American Studies, including a discussion of his recent publication on conspiracy theories in contemporary history, "Paradigms of Paranoia: The Culture of Conspiracy in Contemporary America," as a launching point for a discussion on how to recognize irresponsible theories and combat them, using a comparative approach. ¶3. We understand that the costs of this program will be shared by both hosting regional posts. ¶4.
