During the meeting, the Minister asked about Saddam Hussein and Ali Hassan al-Majid ("Chemical Ali"). The Ambassador explained that Saddam is in solitary confinement and being interviewed; Ali is in a similar situation but under British control, because he was caught in the British sector. ¶2. (C) The Minister stressed that Kuwait has a "special interest" in Ali, who governed Kuwait with such brutality during the Iraqi occupation.
