(S) Post has no knowledge of any Al Haramain branches in
either Sri Lanka or Maldives. Further, we are unaware of any
Al Haramain financing activities among Muslim groups in
either country. Both Sri Lanka and Maldives are vigilant
against Islamic extremist elements. The GORM in particular
takes a very firm, negative line against any potentially
disruptive fundamentalist Islamic activities. We do not
believe designation of Al Haramain under UN 1267 would pose
any concern to either the GSL or GORM.
