SUBJECT: MINISTER OF ECONOMY RESOLVES NETAFIM ISSUE
(SBU) On December 8, UAE Minister of Economy and Planning
Sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi informed Ambassador that she had
signed off earlier in the week on a resolution of NETAFIM's
problem in the UAE. The company was incorporated in the U.S.
and was to be treated as a U.S. entity, she said. The
Minister told the Ambassador that she had personally
telephoned the UAE EMBASSY in Washington to proceed on that
basis. UAE EMBASSY Washington Commercial Attache Reem
Al-Hashemi has informed EconChief that the UAE EMBASSY had
attested NETAFIM,S documents and forwarded them to the
Ministry of Economy. Al-Hashemi added that she would pursue
the matter to ensure that it was resolved.
