On December 10 at a ceremony held at the Espace EDF Electra in Paris, Zimbabwe's only private daily newspaper, The Daily News, was awarded the 2003 Reporters Without Borders - Foundation de France Prize for being "a media that best exemplifies the struggle for the freedom of expression and the right to be informed." ¶2. Ironically the Daily News was shut down by the Government of Zimbabwe on Sept 12 and has been fighting in courts to resume publication. ¶3. This week, December 8 - 12, Post hosted a five day workshop on "Ethics, news gathering and editing," for more than 30 "Daily News" reporters, sub-editors, proof readers, and editors.
