UNCLAS AMMAN 004213 SIPDIS SENSITIVE E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: EAGR ECON JO WTRO SUBJECT: JORDAN: DEMARCHE ON GI'S IN WTO AG NEGOTIATIONS REF: SECSTATE 141208 ¶1. (U) ECONOFF delivered ref demarche to Trade Ministry Secretary General Samer Tawil on July 25. Tawil agreed that SIPDIS the EU proposal was unlikely to provide any real trade benefits for Jordan, and said he would consider supporting our position pending a detailed reading of demarche points. ¶2. (SBU) Comment: Jordan considers its position on many WTO issues to be closer to the U.S. than to the developing world, owing in large part to the aggressive liberalization measures Jordan agreed to in joining the WTO. We expect Jordan will support USG positions on this issue as well. BERRY
