Austrian MFA Middle East Director Friedrich Stift reported
Feb. 24 that Austria will consider abstaining on the
Palestinian UNGA resolution on the Goldstone Report.
However, the Austrians believed the resolution was
significantly more moderate in tone and content than the Oct.
2009 resolution. reflecting a serious effort by the Arab
countries to respond to previous criticisms. E/P pushed
back, noting the particularly problematic points in the
resolution and its overall undermining of internal Israeli
and Palestinian efforts to respond directly to the Goldstone
Report.
