1. (U) UNESCO has set up a task force to deal with the crisis in
Haiti and to determine the well being of its 14 person staff in Port
au Prince. As of last evening, all four members of UNESCO's
international staff in Haiti were accounted for - safe and sound:
one Italian, one French, one from Ivory Coast, one Mauritian. The
chief of the UNESCO office is still searching for information
concerning ten missing Haitian local staffers. According to the
task force leader, UNESCO's one-story office was not damaged by the
earthquake. UNESCO will be part of the coming UN Joint Needs
Assessment. ENGELKEN
