1. (SBU) Charge delivered REFTEL demarche January 31 to the
MFA Director for Multilateral Cooperation Mohamedoun Ould
Daddah and his deputy Lafdal Ould Abeih (after the MFA had
rescheduled the meeting twice). Ould Daddah was not up to
date on the Accord but Ould Abeih was already well aware of
the reporting requirements for the Accord and admitted "we
are behind schedule" in reporting to the UNFCCC Secretariat
Mauritania's desire to associate itself with the Accord.
Ould Abeih indicated the decision was still working through
interministerial coordination but suggested Mauritania would
eventually associate itself.
2. (U) Post will advise if and when Mauritania associates
itself with the Copenhagen Accord.
