--------------
AFGHANISTAN
--------------
1. "WIIL U.S. WAKE UP WITH AFGHANISTAN ATTACK?"
editorial in January 19 right-of-center Hindi daily,
DAINIK BHASKAR: "Kabul once again turned into a
battlefield with the brazen attack by the Taliban.
Pakistan and the U.S. very conveniently see the Taliban
as Pakistani-Taliban and Afghan-Taliban. This attack
unveils the truth about Pakistan's double game, which
the U.S. refuses to see. Now the U.S. and Pakistan will
understand that Taliban is one single entity who they
will have to fight."
2. "VIOLENCE AGAIN IN KABUL," editorial in January 19
right-of-center Hindi daily, AMAR UJALA: "The recent
fierce Kabul attack is a clear message to Afghan
president Karzai that the coming days will be full of
challenges for him. An international military presence
is no solution to Afghanistan's complex problem. The
problem is that the U.S. turns a blind eye to the root
cause of the malaise -- Pakistan. U.S. special envoy
Richard Holbrooke's describing Pakistan's internal
situation as satisfactory shows America's refusal to
recognize the problem."
--------------
GOOGLE AND CHINA
--------------
3. "DRAGON VERSUS GOOGLE," op-ed in January 20 left-of-
center Marathi daily, MAHARASHTRA TIMES: "Google has
shown rare courage in challenging China's repressive
strategies. Google's decision to pull out of China is a
strong condemnation of the Chinese government's e-
censorship. Google has disregarded its own commercial
interests while warding off the Chinese assault on its
internet search market. China is in a hurry to become a
superpower. Its highly sophisticated and targeted
attack on the Gmail accounts is part of a systematic
espionage program to overtake the West as quickly as
possible."
