--------------
TERRORISM
--------------
1. "AL QAEDA ACTIVE AGAIN," editorial in January 13
centrist Marathi daily, NAVSHAKTI: "Al Qaeda'a renewed
terrorist threat to the U.S. is disturbing, but not
just for the U.S. Even countries like India need to be
extra wary of the terror attacks being plotted. Our
airports need to be much more secure, borders patrolled
much better and visa procedures much more fool-proof.
We cannot depend on the U.S. for terror alerts; we need
to have our own intelligence in place."
--------------
INDIA-CHINA RELATIONS
--------------
2. "CREEPING CHINA," editorial in January 12 centrist
Hindi daily, DAINIK HINDUSTAN: "There are reports that
India has lost a substantial amount of land along the
Line of Actual Control over the last 20-25 years due to
Chinese incursion. Prime Minister Singh and his
administration can no longer claim that all is well
between India and China and instead blame the media for
exaggerating. The whole nation knows what an unfriendly
neighbor we have in China. Will the government please
stop acting as if nothing has happened and tell us what
it is doing about these disturbing reports?"
