LIKELY WILL SUPPORT USG PROPOSALS

1. (SBU) Ministry of Environment Director of Fauna and National
Parks M. Daboulaye Man Ymary Djaingue provided GOC feedback February
4 on reftel demarche. Daboulaye stated that Chad would attend the
March 13-25 COP-15 and noted his professional recommendation that
the GOC support the USG proposals. He said that h would advise
senior ministry officials of his reommendation and believed that
the GOC would likey be supportive of the USG at the conference.

SEEKING USG SUPPOT ON IVORY BAN
--------------
2. (SBU) The director also noted his recent partcipation in a
January 22-28 meetingin Brussels of countries supporting the
moratorium on ivory trade. He said that Chad, along with a majority
of African countries, would be asking for support -- from the USG
and others -- to maintain the moratorium on ivory trading.
