1. Uruguayan Army Commander General Jorge Rosales informed emboffs
February 1 that the UN had requested the GOU to send an additional
155 peacekeeping troops to Haiti. Uruguay agreed to send the team,
which will included a medical unit, although MFA Vice Minister
Nelson Fernandez told Charg???? February 3 that a more likely figure
was 120 troops. The GOU is now committed to deploying the troops
within 60 - 90 days, and has requested a list of items from the USG
including freezers, generators and pre-fabricated buildings.
