SUBJECT: BELGIUM:TIP ACTION GUIDE DELIVERED TO MINISTRY OF
JUSTICE

(SBU) Poloff delivered TIP Action Guide to Minister of
Justice De Clerck's Cabinet Advisor for TIP Paule Somers,
Diplomatic Advisor Didier Nagant, and Criminal Policy
Director Freddy Gazan on January 27. Somers and Nagant
thanked Poloff for the information. Gazan acknowledged
receipt of questions for the completion of the 2010 TIP
Report, and informed Poloff that data would be available in
April 2010, after the first draft is due. Somers and Nagant
emphasized that fighting TIP was a Belgian priority and said
the GOB was considering making TIP a particular focus during
the Belgian rotating EU Council presidency July-December

2010. When Poloff asked for details, they said they could
not comment on the Belgian program until June, when the
current Spanish presidency wraps up. They noted that
European Anti-Trafficking Day would be held during the
Belgian presidency on October 18, 2010, and added that
meetings might also be held October 19.
