REF: ANKARA 167

1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.

2. (U) During February 1-7, no security official was killed. The
total number of security force casualties for the year through
February 7, is one killed and one injured.

3. (U) During the same period, five PKKers were captured in Mardin
and Istanbul provinces on February 1, 4 and 5. Seven PKKers
surrendered on February 1 and 4 in Sirnak province. According to
official TGS website figures, through the first week of February,
the number of PKK militants killed this year is zero, the number of
those captured is 15. The number of those who surrendered is 13.

4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed or
injured. Through the first week of February the number of civilians
injured was three.
