1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During January 24-31, no security official was killed. The
total number of security force casualties for the year through
January 31, is one killed and one injured.
3. (U) During the same period, three PKKers were captured in Mardin,
Sanliufa and Gaziantep provinces on January 24, 28 and 29.
According to official TGS website figures, through the fourth week
of January, the number of PKK militants killed this year is zero,
the number of those captured is nine. The number of those who
surrendered is seven.
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed or
injured. Through the fourth week of January the number of civilians
who were injured was three.
